EXCLUSIVE: Bodycam video shows Raleigh Police crackdown on 1st Reopen NC protest (video)
Three years to the day after Raleigh Police (RPD) broke up the first Reopen NC protest for assembling in defiance of the governor’s executive order, I had the opportunity to publish bodycam footage captured by RPD officers. Raleigh Police infamously declared that “protesting is a non-essential activity” when questioned by the public over this police action against protesters.
This release includes not only footage of the arrest of Monica Ussery, but also footage from the staging area where RPD gathered before dispersing the protest.
One of the most striking moments (based on the feedback I have received) is when a RPD Captain told a group of non-socially distanced, unmasked officers that they had to wear masks and gloves when making arrests to “support my claim that this is a public health hazard.”
I believe there will definitely be more reporting on this story coming out soon.
UNC students protest decision to ban ‘Cop City’ activist (Associated Press)
Students at UNC-Chapel Hill gathered Thursday and marched across the campus to protest the banning of alleged domestic terrorist James Marsicano from the campus. . Marsicano, who identifies as she/they “Jamie”, was charged along with at least 22 others in connection to a March 5 attack on the “Cop City” facility under construction in Atlanta. Black-bloc far-left activists used the cover of a nearby “music festival” to attack construction equipment and police officers at the site with rocks, molotov cocktails, and fireworks.
It should be noted that (according to the AP article) prosecutors have not presented evidence that Marsicano specifically engaged any specific act of vandalism or violence. Perhaps time will tell whether this is due to Marsicano’s innocence or the effectiveness as black bloc as a tactic.
Local pastor/activist goes viral (again) confronting LEGO LGBTQ agenda
John Amanchukwu Sr. recorded a video of himself confronting retail employees at a LEGO store over the LGBTQ pins the employees were wearing. As Amanchukwu told the security who showed up to kick him out: “I think it’s grooming, it’s borderline pedophilia and child abuse…” The video currently has over 5 million views when it was shared on Twitter by Charlie Kirk. Amanchukwu is a contributor at Kirk’s organization, Turning Point USA.
Amanchukwu is a local pastor, activist, and author here in Wake County, where he has previously gone viral for a speech criticizing the Wake County Board of Education’s focus on “diversity”.
Wake schools ready to put new equity policy into practice. Critics say it’s ‘toxic.’ (News & Observer)
The Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) has taken it upon themselves to eliminate all personal responsibility for educational outcomes. As stated in the WCPSS equity policy:
Equity as an outcome is the elimination of predictability and disproportionality of outcomes based on student characteristics including but not limited to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, language of origin, disability, sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation. Equity as an action is equipping every student with – and removing barriers to – access to opportunity, support, resources, and an inclusive environment in which they can learn, grow, succeed, and reach their unbounded potential.
In practice, a policy of eliminating the “predictability and disproportionality of outcomes” means discriminating against Asian and White students in favor of Black and Hispanic students, as we see at the university level with affirmative action.
