The anti-white prejudice of Duke surgical resident Vignesh Raman was exposed this week when recordings of an "internal DEI lecture" were published by Daily Wire's Ben Shapiro on Twitter/X. Raman, an emigrant from Signapore, expressed his preference for treating "non-white" patients: "One very good thing about the South that I enjoy is exactly what I alluded to earlier, is that we don't treat VIPs, we treat people from our community. And our community, as I already explained, is majority non-white. And it is wonderful to treat such a diverse group of people in every regard."
However, Raman's love for diversity does not extend into the political: "My heart sinks every time I go into a room and I watch them watching Fox News, or they have a MAGA hat on, or they're wearing a Confederate belt".
What may be more concerning is Raman's DEI-informed attitude towards not only hiring, but also research in academic publications. According to Raman, 2020 and the George Floyd related events "collectively galvanized the consciousness of Duke University" to move away from the "walls of white men" in the halls and to recruit and retain "diverse residents" by "abandoning all metrics and screens" in favor of "transitioning to a completely holistic review process."
Shapiro also pointed to a 2020 tweet from Raman, in which he addresses his racialized view of medical research: "I would say even for academic publications... I don't want to amplify the work of white men who only collaborate with other white men."
This isn't the first time Duke has been implicated in DEI or woke activism; this story inspired me to assemble a list of 8 examples, including civil rights complaints filed by medical watchdog group Do No Harm and the evidence regarding Duke's child gender clinic transitioning children as young as two.
UNC COVID-19 Origins Public Records Lawsuit: what does "proprietary mean"?
2/29
The parties in U.S. Right to Know's public records lawsuit against UNC have filed competing memos on the correct interpretation of the word "proprietary" in NC GS § 116‑43.17, which UNC is citing as their basis to withhold approximately 50,000 records:
§ 116‑43.17. Confidentiality of research data, records, and information of a proprietary nature.
Research data, records, or information of a proprietary nature, produced or collected by or for state institutions of higher learning in the conduct of commercial, scientific, or technical research where the data, records, or information has not been patented, published, or copyrighted are not public records as defined by G.S. 132‑1. (2014‑115, s. 52.)
UNC argues that "proprietary" should be interpreted as anything which is protected under federal copyright law, while U.S. Right to Know argues that "proprietary" should be interpreted in the sense of "trade secret". The interpretation adopted by the special master reviewing the records and/or the court could very well be the determining factor in the case.
