Squatters refuse to leave Durham AirBNB
Airbnb renters refuse to leave, put up no trespassing sign on Durham woman's property - ABC11
AirBNB guests refused to vacate a Durham residence after their seven month long stay expired, according to the property's owner, instead putting up a "no trespassing" sign.
The legal structure in NC is not as weighted towards tenants as it is in the primarily Democratic jurisdictions which have made the news recently in regards to squatters; "Squatter's Rights" in NC take 20 years to kick in.
Although NC law provides for "expedited eviction" under the Vacation Rental Act, it only applies to vacation rental agreements less than 30 days.
Other factors that may play into whether squatting may be an "epidemic" in NC include whether nonprofits are providing legal aid, what proportion of the population is willing to engage in this anti-social behavior, and whether landlords are able to screen out potential tenants who have previously engaged in this behavior.
Legislators in the NCGA filed multiple bills last month which would strengthen the the legal rights of property owners.

Conviction of firearm possession in UNC Hospital parking lot overturned; state appeals to NC Supreme Court
State asks top NC court to block Second Amendment ruling in UNC case - Carolina Journal
Appeals Court overturns UNC gun possession conviction - Carolina Journal
A three judge Appeals Court panel has unanimously ruled that the a UNC Hospital parking lot cannot constitutionally be considered "educational property" after a homeless man was convicted for possessing firearms in a vehicle he left parked while seeking medical treatment.
The panel held that, under the conditions laid out in the 2022 SCOTUS ruling NYSRPA v. Bruen (2022), the parking lot of a hospital affiliated with a university did not qualify as a "sensitive place" at which the state could constitutionally ban firearms, despite it's educational ties.
The Supreme Court of NC has issued a stay on the ruling while the state appeals.
Chapel Hill kicks off "Pride Month" in the Triangle
'Celebrate and come together': Pride Promenade kicks off Pride Month in Chapel Hill - Daily Tar Heel
One of the most liberal jurisdictions in the Triangle started off the month of government-sponsored celebrations of "pride" with a parade led by a "drag queen" with a sexually suggestive name:
"The Triangle Pride Band and drag queens Byanka Bangsum and Marisa Kenning led the parade. Pride flags and ribbons waved in the air as parents, children, dogs, a dancer in a unicorn costume and everyone in between made their way toward the street market."
This individual is one of NC chapter of the "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence", a drag group known for crossdressing in mockery of Catholic nuns. We previously reported on their presence at the Cary Christmas Parade:
