Raleigh’s “strategic” DEI coverup exposed?
‘Champion for DEI’: Raleigh government pushes agenda despite Trump executive order - Accuracy in Media
Conservative group’s undercover video accuses Raleigh of ‘pushing’ diversity - N&O
An undercover video released by the investigative journalism group Accuracy in Media has drawn national attention to the City of Raleigh’s interest in DEI, which may jeopardize millions of dollars in federal grants.
In the video, which was recorded in February after President Trump had issued anti-DEI executive orders, the “Assistant Director of Equity and Inclusion” described “being strategic” and and avoiding “drawing attention” to their work, and how even a non-DEI-named department such as the Department of Community Engagement was also a “champion of DEI.”
In response, the city’s spokesperson claimed that the video was “deceptive,” and that it was recorded during a “period of uncertainty for federal and state policy.”
Since the candid comments were secretly recorded, the city has removed the Department of Equity and Inclusion from the 2025-2026 budget, and removed pages from the city website in which its commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion was clearly laid out.
However, as an upcoming article will lay out, the Department of Equity and Inclusion has merely been renamed, without explanation, to the Department of Economic and Social Advancement, and that evidence such as this video suggests that the city is likely pursuing exactly the same DEI policies in secret which were previously pursued openly.
Although there is currently ongoing litigation, Trump’s administration has cut or paused numerous grants in alignment with his anti-DEI orders, including $18 billion in New York City infrastructure projects earlier this month.
ICYMI: Raleigh resident arrested on twenty child pornography charges after sting by “Predator Poachers”
A Raleigh man has been charged with twenty counts of possessing child sexual abuse material three months after being confronted and exposed in a Chris Hansen-style sting in July.
In the video published on the Predator Poachers channel, Bondowski admitted to the having CSAM on his phone from “four or five” Telegram groups he was in, with court documents alleging he received videos involving the rape of children as young as five.
“I give a lot of credit to the officers on-scene for understanding the urgency of preserving the evidence based on his admissions,” said Rosen in a statement to the Triangle Trumpet.
Bondowski is currently held in Wake County jail on a total bond of $600,000.
Bondowski’s residence, where the sting, occurred also appears to be the location of an in-home photography studio for his fiancee, whose “Red Bridge Photography” website includes photos of fully unclothed infants.

Franklin Sheriff: alleged child molester and negligent parent is on ICE’s radar
A Franklinton resident charged last month with leaving his children unattended at Walmart while drunk now faces an apparently unrelated charge of sexually abusing a child under the age of 16 and is an illegal alien, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
Nicholas Martinez Martinez, 44, has been charged with one count of indecent liberties with a child; and was charged with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse by Louisburg Police for leaving two of his children “unattended in Walmart while intoxicated from alcohol.”
According to a Facebook post by Sheriff Kevin White, Martinez is not in the country legally, and “ICE is coming to get him.”
With his first child abuse charges last month, Martinez was released on the same day on a $10k bond, with no apparent concern or awareness of his illegal status; he is now being held on a $75k bond for the indecent liberties charge. (Although the court file does not show yet show an ICE detainer, it appears likely based on the sheriff’s comments).

Driver charged in Durham hit-and-run identified as illegal alien
Man charged in deadly Durham hit-and-run was in country illegally - WRAL
The driver charged in a fatal hit-and-run in Durham last month has been revealed to be an illegal alien with two prior deportations, according to reporting by WRAL on his court hearing.
Wilmer Marcotulio Fuentes-Mejia, 30, faces charges including involuntary manslaughter and driving with a license revoked due to DWI. (Fuentes-Mejia skipped out on a DWI charge in Wake County in 2020 after being released without bond.)
The pedestrian, who was killed in the hit-and-run on September 13 after getting off a city bus on Chalk Level Road in Durham, has been identified as 61-year-old Richard Ferguson, Jr., an employee of the Durham Housing Authority.
Fuentes-Mejia is being held on secured bonds totaling $5,035,000.

Durham man detained by ICE after visa overstay, facing deportation - WRAL
A Durham resident who has allegedly remained in the country illegally for over a decade was detained by ICE after attending an immigration interview earlier this month.
Mohamed Shama originally entered the country legally in 2012 via his first wife, but lost that legal status when they divorced two years later, according to a fundraising campaign by his family which has attracted over $40k in donations.
Instead of leaving the country, Shama remained in the country working illegally until he met and married an American citizen, who was attempting to sponsor a green card for him. However, when the couple showed up to meet with immigration officials, Shama was arrested by ICE on the basis of an active order for his removal.
“The fact of the matter is those who are in this country illegally have a choice,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin wrote in a statement on the arrest. “They can use the CBP Home app and receive a free flight and a $1,000 check or they can be arrested, detained, and deported.”

Anti-Trump protesters regain momentum for second “No Kings” nationwide protest

Thousands gather peacefully across Triangle for anti-Trump, ‘No Kings’ protests - N&O
On Saturday, left-wing protesters gathered in a series of “No Kings” protests at twelve locations across the Triangle in what may be the largest of at least eight nationwide anti-Trump resistance rallies since the inauguration.
Although the difficulty in estimating the number of participants is increased by the fact that the timing of the rallies was staggered, allowing some demonstrators to attend multiple, I estimate a total attendance of ~6,000-16,000 (based on social media and reporting), ranging from ~30-50 in Sanford to ~4,000-7,000 in Durham:
Apex: ~100-200
Carrboro: ~500-1000
Cary: ~500-1500
Clayton: ~100-200
Durham: ~4,000-7,000
Hillsborough: ~300-500
Louisburg: ~80-150
Pittsboro: ~500-1000
Roxboro: ~40-60
Sanford: ~30-50
Wake Forest: ~400-700
This appears to have been larger than the previous No Kings rally in June, which I estimated at 5,000-15,000 across a comparable twelve locations, and significantly larger than the anti-Trump rallies in August and September.
In addition to the anti-Trump messaging present at the previous protests, a number of the attendees had signs specifically referencing antifa, mocking Trump’s recent naming of the “militarist, anarchist enterprise” as a “terrorist threat” and parroting the antifa propaganda which equates the violent leftist ideology to being synonymous with generically opposing fascism.
These antifa-apologists were most likely a mixture of moderates who have been bamboozled by the left-wing media’s absent or inaccurate coverage of antifa, and radical extremists who believe in the antifa principles of resisting “fascism” by any means necessary and defining most if not all of the right-wing as acceptable targets of even the most extreme violence.
Although there were antifa/anarchist flyers encouraging attendance at the Carrboro and Durham locations in particular, the rallies were generally composed of the same older, more mainstream Democrat protesters which have made up the previous 50501-related protests, and did not appear to feature any signature antifa tactics such as black bloc, vandalism, etc.

In a potentially extremely unrelated incident, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office has launched an arson investigation after a series of brush fires appear to have been intentionally set along I-540 from Glenwood Avenue to Capital Boulevard at the same time the protesters were lining Capital nearby between Old Wake Forest Road and Oak Forest Road.
