Israel-Hamas conflict leads to vandalism of Starbucks and other businesses in Durham - N&O
Jewish Voice for Peace, the pro-Palestinian organization responsible for blocking a highway in Durham last week, took their obstructionist demonstration to Raleigh this Thursday, blocking Fayetteville St. for “about an hour”; one of the organizers, Rania Masri, who had also participated in the Durham roadblock had the following to say:
"We will continue to escalate and escalate and escalate until the genocide stops, and we have been escalating," Masti said. "We shut down the Durham highway. Some people were not happy about that, but it’s really hard to go on with our lives to pretend everything’s okay when our taxpayer dollars are killing children."
Unsurprisingly, two days later in the early morning hours this Saturday, seven Durham businesses including five Starbucks locations were vandalized with anti-Israel graffiti. One image published by the News & Observer shows a drive-thru window spray-painted with messages like “Kid Killers” and “Don’t Support Kid Killers”.
What can we expect next in this “escalation”?

The Johnston County Board of Education has amended the district’s “Parental Involvement” policy to include and expand upon the “Age-appropriate instruction for grades kindergarten through fourth grade” statute included in the SB49 along with the Parents’ Bill of Rights passed by the GOP supermajority in the NC General Assembly this year.
In addition to the language from NC GS § 115C-76.55 prohibiting “instruction on gender identity, sexual activity, or sexuality” in the “curriculum provided in kindergarten through fourth grade”, the JoCo school board expanded the ban to non-curriculum “supplementary materials” and expanded the grades included to K-5 to simplify applying the rule to elementary school libraries.
